Job Summary: Assists in providing educationally related speech and language services to special education students according to each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: Range 16: $29.77- $36.21 / Hourly Rate
Hours : 6 Hours/Day, 5 Days/Week, 183 Days/Year
Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications & Abilities: - Associate Degree in and/or graduation from a Speech-Language Pathology assistant certificate program OR a Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communicative Disorders with a minimum of 70 hours of field work/clinical experience from a Board approved program.
- Hold a current Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) license from the Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Work effectively in unsupervised and uncontrolled environments.
- Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment.
- Requires a professional demeanor and a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, and others contacted during the course of business.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
Essential Functions: - Under the supervision of a speech and language pathologist (SLP), provides direct treatment assistance to students.
- Follows and implements documented treatment plans or protocols developed by a supervising speech and language pathologist.
- Prepares therapy materials and/or equipment for use in the classroom and during therapy activities as directed.
- Assists in data collection and document for use in the classroom and during therapy activities.
- Assists in maintaining student files and submitting treatment documentation.
- Assists a SLP during assessment, including assisting with formal documentation, preparing materials, and performing clerical duties.
- When competent to do so, as determined by the supervising SLP, act as an interpreter for non-English-Speaking students and their family members.
- Programs and provides instruction for students in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
- Assists with Speech and Language pathology in-service training and family or community education.
- Demonstrates an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students, particularly those exhibiting development delays.
- Appropriately manages student behavior and guides students toward more acceptable social behaviors.
- Communicates effectively in oral and written form and, depending on the assignment, use manual communication techniques to communicate with the hearing impaired.
- Learns to utilize a variety of appropriate speech-therapy materials and procedures in the enhancement of a training and educational environment.
- Accesses community resources to best serve infant/toddler and family needs.
