Marshfield Clinic – Marshfield Children’s is seeking an RN Outpatient for our GI Unit within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide specialized nursing care to pediatric patients and their families in an outpatient gastroenterology setting, supporting a wide range of conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, feeding issues, liver and pancreatic disorders, and functional GI concerns. You will work closely with pediatric gastroenterologists, advanced practice providers, dietitians, social workers, and other members of an integrated, multidisciplinary care team to deliver safe, evidence-based, family-centered care. As the RN Outpatient – GI Unit, you will be responsible for patient triage, assessment, and care coordination before, during, and after GI procedures and clinic visits. You will obtain health histories, perform focused physical assessments, administer medications, start and manage IV access as needed, and monitor patient status and responses to treatment. You will provide pre- and post-procedure education to children and families, including preparation for endoscopy and colonoscopy, bowel prep instructions, post-sedation monitoring, and ongoing disease and medication teaching tailored to the pediatric population. You will coordinate diagnostic testing, lab work, and imaging, and ensure results are reviewed and communicated in a timely, understandable way. Using the electronic health record, you will document assessments, nursing interventions, patient education, and care plans accurately and efficiently while supporting quality metrics and regulatory requirements. Telephone and electronic triage are key aspects of this position: you will respond to family calls and messages, assess symptoms, provide evidence-based advice within scope, and collaborate with providers to determine appropriate next steps, including urgent evaluation when necessary. The RN will play an active role in clinic flow, assisting with rooming, vital signs, vaccinations within scope, and procedure support, including preparing patients and families, setting up equipment, assisting providers during GI procedures, monitoring sedation levels per protocol, and ensuring recovery criteria are met prior to discharge. You will reinforce infection prevention and patient safety practices and help maintain a calm, child-friendly, and culturally sensitive environment. As part of a collaborative, patient-first culture, you will participate in huddles, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing outcomes, patient experience, and staff well-being. Education is central to this role. You will teach patients and caregivers about chronic GI disease management, medications such as biologics and immunosuppressants, nutritional plans, enteral feeding regimens, and use of home equipment. You will individualize teaching to developmental level, health literacy, and cultural background, using teach-back and other strategies to ensure understanding. You will also support transition of care planning, helping older adolescents and families prepare for eventual transfer to adult GI care. Marshfield Clinic Health System – Marshfield Children’s offers a collaborative environment emphasizing compassion, integrity, and continuous improvement. As an RN on the GI Unit, you will benefit from supportive leadership, evidence-based practice resources, shared governance, and ongoing professional development through continuing education, certifications, and specialty training. You will have opportunities to participate in research, clinical projects, and innovation in pediatric GI care as part of a large, integrated health system with a strong regional presence across central and northern Wisconsin. This role is ideal for a nurse who is passionate about pediatrics, enjoys building long-term relationships with children and families, and thrives in an outpatient setting that combines procedural support, chronic disease management, and care coordination. Commitment to teamwork, clear communication, and respect for all patients and colleagues is essential. The RN Outpatient – GI Unit will help advance the mission of Marshfield Children’s by delivering high-quality, family-centered pediatric GI care while maintaining personal wellness and work-life balance supported by the organization’s culture and resources.
