Job Description

Job Description

Durfee Law Group is a firm specializing in tax law, business planning, and estate planning for business owners, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals. We take an interdisciplinary approach; many of our attorneys carry both legal and accounting credentials, which allows us to deliver integrated, strategic counsel that goes beyond traditional legal advice.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Attorney plays a critical role advising clients on tax law, business planning, and estate planning matters — drafting complex legal documents, guiding transactions, and serving as a trusted advisor to business owners, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals. Reporting directly to the Managing Attorney, this attorney will be an integral part of a growing, interdisciplinary team committed to delivering integrated legal and strategic counsel that goes beyond traditional legal advice.

This is not a litigation role. The work is transactional, strategic, and relationship-driven with direct client responsibility from day one.

REPORTS TO:

Managing Attorney

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Provide sophisticated legal counsel on business transactions, estate planning, and tax optimization strategies, serving as a trusted advisor to business owners and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Draft, analyze, and revise business structuring agreements, estate plans, trust instruments, and tax-planning documents, ensuring compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Research and interpret complex tax and estate laws to develop practical, client-centered solutions.
  • Manage case files strategically, maintaining documentation accuracy and coordinating with legal and administrative team members.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all applicable legal standards and professional responsibility requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships across a nationwide client base.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on client strategy and firm initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice law in Arizona
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one of: tax law, business planning, or estate planning
  • Strong analytical and legal judgment with the ability to handle complex, multi-issue matters independently
  • Advanced legal research and writing ability
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relations skills; able to build trust with sophisticated clients
  • Rigorous attention to detail and strong organizational habits
  • Collaborative and collegial — comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Adaptable to new legal and practice management software
Strongly Preferred
  • Experience across all three practice areas: tax, business, and estate planning
  • Dual credentials in law and accounting (CPA, LLM in Taxation, or equivalent)
  • Background advising business owners and high-net-worth individuals on tax and estate strategy.
  • Experience in structuring and negotiating complex business transactions with tax implications
Work Environment
  • Location: On-site at Main Mesa Office
  • Schedule: Full-time; standard business hours with flexibility as client matters require
  • Tools: Regular use of legal research platforms, document management systems, and practice management software; proficiency in new tools expected and supported
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $75,000 commensurate with experience
  • Collections Commission: Uncapped commission earned on collections above a defined quota — high performers have meaningful earning potential beyond base
  • Origination Bonus: Additional compensation for new client origination; details provided during the interview process
  • Medical Benefits: Medical Benefits with Employer Contribution
  • Professional Development: Firm-supported CLE, mentorship from senior attorneys, and ongoing training on practice developments
  • Culture: Collaborative team environment with structured onboarding and integration support for new attorneys
